Southall beat SSML Division One leaders Welwyn Garden City 3-2 to inflict just a second league loss of the season on Adam Fisher’s side.

Despite the defeat, the Citizens remain 12 points clear at the top of the table from Bedford who are second with a game in hand.

The opening goal of the clash, delayed due to traffic problems, went the way of the home side as Edison Teberen netted in the 10th minute.

WGC responded three minutes later as Jason Caswell levelled.

However, City went behind for a second time as Teberen scored an incredible goal, lobbing the ball over the keeper from the halfway line.

Not done there Southall added a third just before half-time through Isaac Asare.

It could have been even worse for WGC at the start of the second half, however Roderick was unable to convert a penalty which would have finished off the game.

WGC’s Daryl Smith found a goal to give his side hope when he made it 3-2, but despite an extended period of injury time the equaliser never came.

WGC boss Adam Fisher said afterwards: “I felt that last night (Wednesday) was the first time we have looked complacent and maybe the shot in the arm we needed.

“Now it is a 13 game season and we need to win nine of those to guarantee promotion.”
