HIGH visibility patrols by police neighbourhood teams across North Herts will be taking place during Halloween and Bonfire Night to ensure people of all ages can enjoy events safely.

Jason Thorne, temporary chief inspector for North Herts, said: "I would like to reassure residents across North Herts that we have been working closely with our partners at North Herts District Council and Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service planning for Halloween and Bonfire Night to ensure people can have fun safely and responsibly.

"Crime is down across North Herts and, although incidents of anti-social behaviour can increase slightly at this time of the year, we have plans in place to ensure incidents can be dealt with accordingly. A great deal of preventative work and education has been taking place, we don't want to spoil anyone's fun and we hope that everyone has a good time."

He added: "I would like to remind people, especially younger members of our communities, that anti-social behaviour, such as throwing eggs at people's houses, is not acceptable and those involved in such acts will be dealt with accordingly. Some vulnerable people won't answer their door to trick or treaters but this should not mean they become a target.
