CONMEN posing as highways contractors could be on their way to Crow Country.

Hertfordshire Highways is alerting residents and businesses to bogus workmen who offer to paint white lines at a high price.

The workmen claim to be subcontractors from Hertfordshire Highways and even give names of Highways employees in an attempt to sound genuine.

They claim to have some spare paint left over after a job and so far have been offering to paint parking bays.

One resident became suspicious when they were quoted 1,500 for painting a few white lines in their car park.

Cllr Stuart Pile, executive member for highways and transport at the county council, said: “We’ve had similar incidents in the past, with people claiming to be working for Herts Highways and offering to resurface driveways at supposedly discount prices.

“Genuine highways contractors do not call on householders with offers to tarmac driveways or do other work with materials left over from roadworks.”
