Week long training course for pupils
STUDENTS got a taste of life as firefighters this week.
Twelve Year 9 students from The Meridian School spent the week with crews at Royston fire station, undergoing training similar to that delivered on LiFE (Life Intervention and Fire Education) courses.
Station commander Sean Comerford said: “They were put through their paces by Dave Rees, one of our LiFE instructors based at Royston.
“They were instructed in hose running, ladders, breathing apparatus and many other facets of the job of a modern fire-fighter. They have also received instruction from our service fitness advisor about diet, fitness and nutrition and healthy living.
“Most importantly they learned about teamwork and the sharing of responsibilities.”
Mr Comerford said he was grateful to Johnson Matthey, which provided financial support for the event.
