EVENTS for this weekend’s Royston Arts Festival continue to be announced, with three more attractions revealed to The Crow this week.

The Royston Arts Society will be exhibiting their work in Royston Town Hall on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm.

408 paintings will be on display, with the public given the chance to vote for their favourite in the Johnson Matthey sponsored ‘my favourite painting award.’

Shirley Streater from the Arts Society said: “This has been a regular feature that people have enjoyed over the last 6 years and has created a lot of fun.

“Its kept people with us far longer than would otherwise have been, often resulting in them buying a picture they have really liked to the delight of both the artist and the buyer.”

“Our reputation for putting on an excellent exhibition is well known and gives people the chance to enjoy viewing or buying good work at reasonable prices.”

Entrance to the exhibition is free and refreshments are available.

Royston Photographic Society will once again be part of the festival with two events organised for Saturday.

The first is an exhibition and slide show in the Parish Church of St John, which will run from 10am until 4:30pm.

They will also be running a ‘Face of Royston’ project, again this year, with the hope of photographing over 1,000 people. The photographs will then be organised into a rapidly developing slideshow.

Philip Wingfield, chairman of Royston photographic society, said: “This is a great project which could involve anyone in Royston and allow them to become part of the art.

“The slide show will be running in the window of The Stationary Cupboard in the High Street so please stop by and see it and if you see our photographers on the street.

“While we see this as an art project it also captures a moment of history of a day in Royston and the people that were there. Be there, be part of the art, be part of the history.”

There will also be an exhibition of sculptures and paintings at a specially arranged studio space at 16 High Street, between 9am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Work by renowned sculptor Paul Bainbridge, who has models on display in Madame Tussauds, former commercial sculptor Norman Emms and Bassingbourn-based painter Elaine Baigent will all be on display.
