Royston Celtic Greens U13 went down 3-1 to deserved winners Pin Green Juniors.
Despite playing some good football in their pre-season friendlies, Celtic Greens were unable to carry their excellent form at the end of last season into their first match in Under-13 Division 3.
Celtic were twice caught cold in the opening minutes. Firstly, Pin Green broke down the left to make it 1-0 after only two minutesbefore the lead was doubled a minute later.
For the next 25 minutes Celtic looked shell-shocked and Pin Green dominated the play. They made several chances and were only denied by a number of good saves by ‘keeper Ryan Judge.
Towards the end of the first half Celtic started to make some chances of their own down the wings but the Pin Green ‘keeper held firm.
In the second half Celtic improved, prompted by the hard work of Matthew Foley in midfield, but the visitors remained dangerous and won a penalty in the 54th minute. This brought another fine save from the Celtic ‘keeper but the visitors scored their third in the 63rd minute having passed their way through the home defence.
Callum Goodall scored a well-taken consolation goal in added time but Celtic could have no complaints about the result.
Team: Judge; Lewis, Cooke, Goodall, Edwards, Mynott, Filby, Foley, Hargreaves, Harris, McGee. Subs: Jeewoth, Gotts, Kuenzi.
