Over 250 modified vehicles were gathered together last night to raise funds to help a a car mad youngster diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Members of the Royston Modified Club rolled into the town on Sunday night to put on a display of powerful hot hatches and saloons at the Tesco Extra car park to support 10-year-old Luca Allen.

When club owners Darren Bull and Sharon Bavister heard that Luca, from Stevenage, must undergo six weeks of chemotherapy at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, they called members and at four days notice organised the display.

Club member Terry Wisbey, who is a friend of the Allen family, said a lot of people rallied round to help.

“It was really good. People baked cakes and someone bought a tea and coffee machine, and trophies for best cars were given for free by V B Trophies in the town.”

Raffled prizes included a ride in a 1,000bhp Nissan Skyline and a photography shoot.

Nearly 400 was raised at the event, which will help Luca’s parents Virgil and Sonia to meet travel expenses and give Luca breaks away.

“Luca starts radiotherapy and chemotherapy this week and every day for the next six weeks,” Terry added. “The money will help with travel and to take him on days out.”

Luca was unable to attend the event but is hoping to be at a custom car meet organised by the A602 Club in Stevenage on Sunday.
