A fab five of scouts from a Royston scout troop have received the highest accolade in scouting.
The quintet from the First Royston Scout Troop – Laurie Brewster, Daniel Turner, Joseph Ready, Simon Fell and Ewan Brown – were presented with the Chief Scout’s Gold Award by the Royston assistant district commissioner of scouting, Stuart Sharpe, last Saturday.
The troop’s leader, Chris Lennox-Smith, said: “To give out one Gold Award is an honour for any scout leader, but to give out five at once is just breathtaking. These boys have worked very hard to get to their goal and are a real credit to the troop.”
In order to receive the prestigious award the five boys, all aged 14, had to complete eight out of nine scouting challenge badges.
This involved accomplishing a number of ambitious tasks, from physical challenges to dealing with the local community.
