Extra carriages will be added to trains running through Crow country for passengers travelling to three major events next weekend
Train operator First Capital Connect is adding the carriages to selected services running from Cambridge to London, via Royston and the other stations in Crow country, for the weekend of Friday, July 4-Monday July 7.
These will help the expected extra demand placed on services due to the Wireless and Sonisphere music festivals, and the Tour de France, a stage of which begins in Cambridge on Monday, July 7.
FCC’s Customer Service Director Keith Jipps said: “We have a long weekend of music festivals ahead of us on the Great Northern route followed on the Monday by one of the world’s greatest sporting events – Stage 3 of the Tour de France which is taking place on a busy working day.
“We have worked really hard with the organisers, local councils and other transport operators to develop a comprehensive plan to manage the crowds which also involves many longer trains and, wherever possible, additional services at key times.
“But passengers must plan ahead and follow the advice on our website or speak to a member of station staff. We’ll have more people on hand to help, including volunteer ‘Tour Makers’, reminiscent of the Games Makers of the Olympics.”
