The decision on whether to go ahead with plans for a controversial anaerobic digestion plant and greenhouse between Shepreth and Meldreth will be made at a meeting next week.
The plans – which are to build the digester at the site of Fillcup Fields in Meldreth Road – will be decided by South Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday next week.
The proposal, which was submitted by Bourne Valley Associates on behalf of Nethy Energy, will create about 12 new on-site jobs.
However, fears were raised during the consultation period about the smell emitted from operations, the noise it would create, and the amount of traffic going to and from the site.
The proposal is to build a 3,878 sqm greenhouse covered with a double layer of plastic film.
Most of the energy would be generated on-site and so there would be a backyard area with a small solid anaerobic digester.
There would also be features such as a biomass boiler.
The greenhouse would grow about five million plants annually, which would weigh 500 tons.
