It was a chance to celebrate the world’s most spectacular of cats – the formidable tiger – whilst raising money for a good cause.
Year on year Tiger Day at Shepreth Wildlife Park is a hit with visitors, and this time was no exception.
The day featured a range of activities to raise money for tigers in the wild, including face painting workshops, fantastic performances by the Young Actors Company and singer Melody Causton, plus plenty of games, an auction and treats – and not just for the hungry cats.
Graham Harding, who previously sported a grizzly mane worthy of any tiger, raised money by shaving off all his hair.
Special guests from Cambridge United even made an appearance to pledge their support for the fundraiser.
In total, more than £1,000 was raised from the day, which also paid homage to Shepreth Wildlife Park resident Amba the Tiger’s 17th birthday.
Director Rebecca Willers said: “We are so pleased with the support this special tiger event still receives from both our visitors and our team 11 years on.
“We have now raised more than £44,000 for tiger conservation, and we hope this has made a difference to the impact of tiger numbers left in the wild.
“Of course the day is also designed to be fun, but within this party spirit we also hope everyone leaves with perhaps one fact they did not know before their visit, and passionate enough to make a difference themselves.”
