A young blacksmith is appealing for information after his decorative sword used for demonstrations was stolen over the bank holiday weekend at Wimpole Estate.
Peter Williamson, 23, graduated just last year and made the two and a half foot sword as part of his final degree project.
His father John said Peter is ‘gutted’ that the sword, worth about £3,000, was taken from his tent on Sunday in the grounds of Wimpole where he was doing demonstrations in the folly.
He said: “It took so long to make. He came back to our home in Abbots Langley on Tuesday and he didn’t tell us at first, because he was still gutted about it.
“He was so shocked. We are resigned to the idea that we may never see it again, but hopefully someone will come forwards with information.
“The staff at the National Trust were very helpful in trying to locate it.” Anyone with information can contact police on 101, quoting crime reference OF/15/833.
