After being hit by a car and left bleeding at the side of the road, cat Phoebe was close to death.

Thankfully vet Jo Brand from Wood Green animal charity, which has a base in Heydon, was right behind the accident and took the cute kitty straight to the vet.

Tragically tortoiseshell Phoebe was not micro-chipped so her owners could not be contacted, but Wood Green stepped in and offered to continue her treatment.

Phoebe arrived temporarily blind and terrified following her head trauma.

Since then staff have been giving this incredibly affectionate cat the round the clock care, love and attention that she deserves.

Sadly, her facial injuries were so severe that her right eye could not be saved but veterinary eye specialist David Williams was called in to save her left eye.

Jane Harrup from Wood Green said: β€œIt really was touch and go. But we were determined to give her the best possible treatment, to save as much of her vision as we could.”

Phoebe is not ready for rehoming just yet, but soon the charity will be looking for a loving family to care for her.
