A Meldreth nurse is brimming with pride after the success of her son’s birthday party – which raised more than £1,000 for the refugee crisis.
There was an appearance from a Mr Tumble lookalike, a cake stall, bouncy castle and face painting when Amanda Smith held the fundraiser for her son Rory’s first birthday party in Meldreth Village Hall.
She said: “The party was such a success. There was a wonderful turn out. The children had a great time with Mr Tumble and bouncing on the bouncy castle.
“The raffle seemed very popular with thanks to the local business who kindly donated some lovely prizes.
“Overall, we raised a total of £1,071, which includes our just giving page. I was overwhelmed with peoples’ kindness, generosity and support for the British Red Cross. Many people approached me to say what a wonderful idea the party was. The money has been equally split - half has gone to the Syria Crisis Appeal, and the other half to the Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal.”
