In a picturesque scene of rural England, a flower festival was held in the village of Reed at the weekend.

About £1,000 was raised to contribute to church funds while villagers had fun in the sun.

The festival was held at St Mary’s Church in Church Lane, and visitors got the chance to view some bountiful floral displays as well as get involved in numerous activities.

Punters got to a fine selection of food and drink to enjoy – they dined on a barbecue and strawberry tea, and there were plenty of stalls selling all sorts of prized wares.

The church’s rector, Rev Ruth Pyke, said: “All the fun of an English village day saw maypole dancing, strawberries and flowers at St Mary’s Church last weekend.

“The weekend ended with Songs of Praise featuring singing by the children of Reed First School and the newly formed Reed St Mary’s Singers.

“About £1,000 was raised which will contribute towards church funds, and maintenance of the building.”
