Members of Royston Rotary Club are looking forward to celebrating another 12 months of charitable giving after this year’s total reached more than £22,000.

Outgoing president Karin Weston is thrilled that her time in office may be a record year of giving for the 36-member club – which has helped more than 20 good causes in the last 12 months.

“It’s really satisfying to have been able to help so many good causes,” she said.

“We’ve always known what a generous town Royston is, so that when we run a charitable event – like the Kite Festival or the Swimathon – we can be confident that we’ll have the backing of lots of generous Roystonians.”

Club treasurer David Smyth told a recent meeting of the club’s council that they expect 2016-2017’s charitable donations to be around £22,500. A major beneficiary has been Herts Air Ambulance, with more than £7,000 donated, and other sums have gone to Khandel Light and the Volunteer Centre.
