This week Studlands Rise First School’s nursery class, Foals, had their first Balanceability session with instructor Mrs Bracewell.
The programme is designed to help Early Years Foundation Stage children gain the confidence and skills required to ride a pedal bike independently.
And it is the UK’s first and only accredited ‘learn to cycle’ programme for children aged 2½ to six years old.
The session started with a fun warm up followed by an introduction to balance bikes.
The children were said to have had a lovely time whizzing around the hall and weaving in and out of obstacles.
PE subject lead Mrs Hill said: “At the start of the session not all of the children were able to ride a balance bike, but by the end they all had developed the confidence to have a go.
“Balanceability not only teaches children how to ride without stabilisers, but also develops children’s balance, gross motor skill and core stability, by having fun through physical activity.”
The activity will help set up the children who took part who participate in the school’s Bikeability programme at a later stage in their school years.
