More than 400 people descended on Knebworth Barns for this year’s Hertfordshire Care Awards, an event which celebrates the achievements of those who work in the industry.

Retired athlete Jamie Baulch was joined by TV personality and chef Rustie Lee as VIP guests for the ceremony, hosted by the Hertfordshire Care Providers Association in partnership with Herts County Council.

Suzy Duxbury – who works for Letchworth-based Hertfordshire Community Meals – was named the engagement and wellbeing specialist of the year, while Audrey Chikomba from Stevenage collected the compassionate care worker award in recognition of her team leader role at Meadow Care Services.

Afterwards she said: “I’m very humbled and I’d like to thank my care manager Engie, without who this would not have been possible.

“I’m very passionate about my work and I live for care. I’d like to thank the HCPA for recognising the unsung heroes.”

Other winners included Carers in Hertfordshire, which scooped the care partner award, North Hertfordshire Homes’ Peter Sell House in Desborough Road, Hitchin, which was declared the most innovative care team, and Stevenage-based Partners in Support which was presented with the most innovative care company prize.

Speaking on the night, Rustie told the audience: “Coming here and being in a room full people like yourselves warms my heart. You are all angels.

“It is a pleasure to be here and to hear all of the beautiful stories. You’re all absolute winners and it’s an honour to have been in a room with you all.”
