Tesco has announced this morning that it will close 43 stores across the country.
The company, which has supermarkets in Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock and Royston, has not yet confirmed which stores it will be closing.
The firm will also stop development on a further 49 shops and is closing its staff pension scheme in an effort to make £250 million in cuts.
It was also announced that the company’s Cheshunt headquarters will be closing in 2016, making the Welwyn Garden City offices the UK and group centre.
A spokeswoman for Tesco said: “We will not be giving out any information about the stores at this time, our first priority is to inform our colleagues.”
