A winter clothing appeal backed by Baldock funeral directors Shires closes today.
Shires has teamed up with the Hitchin Volunteer Army for the community wardrobe campaign which is aiming to provide warm clothing for disadvantaged families in the North Herts area.
The Whitehorse Street offices are a reception point for collecting clothes and other essential items which will be donated to families in need who qualify for vouchers, similar to the system used by food banks, which will be available from housing association landlord North Herts Homes, local children’s centres or health visitor teams.
Many of the families in need are either fleeing domestic violence, in poverty or in extremely vulnerable situations, so essential items such as clothes, shoes, toiletries, towels and bedding are in great need and will be hugely appreciated.
Principal funeral director Chloe McKnight said: “we have always supported our local community, whenever and wherever possible, and the winter wardrobe collection is a great way to help those around us who find themselves on harder times.”
Anyone who would like to make a donation of clothes can drop off items at 40 Whitehorse Street.
