THE Melbourn History Book has been voted the best publication in the Cambridgeshire Local History Society history book awards 2005.
The 270-page book took four years to produce and tells the history of Melbourn from day one up until 1950.
Colin Lemming, chairman of the Melbourn History Group, said: "The society recognised that it was an excellent publication which has been well laid out and beautifully produced.
"We are over the moon with the award. It's for the people of Melbourn and without them we wouldn't have been able to have the book.
"We had an excellent team of people, including two professional designers."
The publication, which cost £22,000 to produce, was funded
by the Countryside Agency.
Mr Lemming added: "We are now looking at the formation of a local history group which might combine several villages in the area."
The book also comes with a DVD which shows photographs and has narration from residents.
Every household in the village has been given a copy of the book.
