BLUE skies meant that the 14th Little Gransden Air and Vintage Vehicle Show got off to a flying start on Sunday.

More than £24,000 was raised at the event, which saw about 70 aircraft and 300 vehicles taking part.

Austin Healeys, Rolls-Royces, Corsairs, and Ford Anglias were among the vehicles that drew in thousands of visitors.

The airshow saw craft such as the B-17 Sally B, a Lancaster, a Chipmunk and a Spitfire take to the skies.

Event organiser Dave Poile said: "We have never seen crowds like it.

"It was so busy that a neighbouring farmer allowed us to use a piece of his land for parking."

About £8,000 was raised for BBC Children In Need.

"It has exceeded our expectations," said Mr Poile.

"The highlight of the day was the Messerschmitt which was 'shot down' by two Mustangs.

"But it was also nice to have a Spitfire and a Hurricane - the only flying one in the world."

Mr Poile said the show was becoming 'increasingly' harder to run because of health and safety reasons.

"Next year we will need an additional £1,000 to advertise the event on the roadside," he said.

"If anyone has contacts and there is a chance of sponsorship for next year please let me know.

"Securing £6,000 before the event would really help.
