STUDENTS at Freman College in Buntingford had nerves of steel as they picked up their GCSE results on Thursday.

After three months of waiting 70 per cent of students achieved five or more A*-C grades.

Headteacher Helen Loughran said: "I am really delighted for the students. They have worked very hard to achieve these results and they really deserve this success.

"It is also a real testament to the expertise and commitment of their teachers."

High achievers included Ellie Earp who was awarded nine A* and two As, twins Dawn and Roseanne Wheeler, who got two A*, 15 As and five Bs between them and Jessica Gordon, who achieved six A*s and five As.

Jessica said: "I'm ecstatic. I was quite confident but I didn't think I would do this well."

Jessica's mother Linda said: "We always thought she would do well because of the amount of revision she put in. She has always been very dedicated."

Josh Saydraouten, who was awarded one A*, one A, six Bs and one D will be staying on at the college's sixth form to study A-level business, geography, physical education and biology.

He said: "I am really pleased with my results. A few of the exams were harder than the mocks but the hard work paid off."

Beth Fox achieved five Cs, five Bs and one A and will be studying A-level geography, English and religious education at the sixth form.

"I was expecting all Cs because I didn't have much confidence so I was quite surprised," she said.

Other high achievers include Louise Moore and Frankie Witney, who achieved one of the five highest marks in the whole country for religious education.

- At Bassingbourn Village College 100 per cent of students got at least one pass with 68 per cent achieving five or more A*-C grades.

Ruth Hall, Thomas Tanvir, Caroline Wood and Matthew Singh all achieved 12 A Levels and got five or more A* each.

In addition 23 Year 10 students took GCSE mathematics a year early with all students achieving an A*-C grade and two students in Year 9 took GCSE language two years early.

As a result James Bloor was awarded an A* in German and Charlotte Timm was awarded an A* in French.

Headteacher Scott Hudson, said: "We are very pleased for the many pupils who achieved good examination results this year and delighted with individual performances across the whole ability range.
