COUNCILLORS are demanding talks with Anglian Water representatives over a smell which has been covering part of Royston in recent weeks.
The move came after 586 residents on the Burns Road estate signed a petition complaining about the smell which is believed to be coming from sewage works on the A505 Royston bypass.
Ronald Hutchings, of Eliot Road, Royston told members of North Herts District Council's Royston area committee: "The smell has got worse over the past three years."
He said he was "convinced" it was coming from the sewage works.
It is believed that waste is transported to the sewage works for treatment which may be causing the smell.
Anglian Water representatives are being urged to meet councillors to discuss the problem.
