ONCE-a-week rubbish bin collections could be scrapped in the autumn.

Instead North Herts District Council is planning to introduce collections once every two weeks.

Members of the district council approved the introduction of the changes on Thursday evening.

It is likely the scheme will be introduced in Royston and the surrounding area at the end of September.

The new scheme is expected to see savings in the council's budget of £300,000 up to 2009.

At a recent meeting of the council's Royston area committee in November it was said that the scheme would create the opportunity to see an increase in recycling.
