STUDENTS at a Royston school have been making their mark in a national competition.

As part of National Enterprise Week, Year 10 students from The Meridian School responded to an online brief to design an eco-friendly product of service which could be used locally and internationally.

The teams of four-to-six students were given the brief at 9am, and had the day to come up with some creative ideas for the Make Your Mark Challenge.

Each tutor group picked a best team and these were then judged by members of the Rotary Club of Royston.

Roy Milne, head of careers at the school, said: "The winning team, Bass, came up with a hamster wheel idea where students power the school during PE lessons using spinning bikes."

Bass will now be judged by a panel from National Enterprise Week and the 20 best teams from each region will go forward to the regional finals before having the opportunity to develop their ideas further at the national final.

Enterprise Week is an annual week of activities and events aimed at inspiring young people aged 14-30 to have ideas and make them happen.
