A "BRIDGE" across the Royston Cave could prevent more damage to the ancient monument.
The idea would be to erect a low-slung bridge which would prevent the cave being damaged from vibrations.
County councillor Doug Drake suggested the move at a meeting of North Herts District Council's Royston area committee.
The committee believe that most of the damage is being caused by one heavy lorry from Holland which delivers to a business in the town centre.
Cllr Tony Hunter said there should be a "taboo area" for parking around the cave.
Committee chairman Cllr Fiona Hill said there was the need for a weight limit in Melbourn Street.
The committee plans to have further talks with the county council's highways department.
