A VETERINARY surgery in Royston has new owners.

David and Margaret White have taken over the Royston Veterinary Centre in Valley Rise, off Newmarket Road.

David, who has been a vet for 27 years, said: "It has been fantastic so far - the staff are brilliant.

"We want to see the surgery grow."

David qualified as a vet at Cambridge University in 1977, and has since worked across Hertfordshire, as well as at the Ministry of Agriculture.

He has been working at the centre for the past year as an assistant vet.

And, David's wife Margaret joins him as a veterinary nurse at the centre.

She said: "We want to make life easier for people, and be accessible to our clients.

"We are making small changes one at a time."

The centre was built in the 1950s and treated large animals.

It has remained a veterinary centre ever since, although it now handles a lot of smaller pets.

The husband and wife team, who have two children, have kept on all the staff at the centre.

Previous owner John Routledge is taking a break, but is due to start work again at the surgery in June on a part-time basis.

David said: "This is the beginning and we want to change the practise and computerise it."

Margaret added: "There is a great deal of charisma about the place, and we don't want to take that away.
