A KEY report on the Royston Town Centre Strategy will not be produced until June.

The report on the recent public consultation exercise was expected to be discussed last night (Wednesday) by members of North Herts District Council's Royston area committee.

But the report has been delayed so that it can include a parking strategy which is seen as vital to the process.

Cllr Fiona Hill, chairman of the Royston area committee, told The Crow: "We want to make sure that we get this absolutely right.

"We are talking about the shape of the future of the town centre," she said.

In the meantime, a report which has been published says there were almost 90 responses to the public consulation and most of these were "generally positive".

The report says responses are being examined: espcially into issues such as the importance of open spaces; the need for any development to be of high quality; the movement of traffic and the town hall site.

It says that additional work on the strategy now needs to be carried out before an action plan is produced.

"The action plan would include short-term to medium-term actions," said the report.

Once the action plan is in place then members will decide on the key elements which need to be adopted.

The report is expected to be discussed when the area committee meets in June.

It will then need the support of the council's Cabinet and the council.
