DISGRUNTLED South Cambridgeshire District Councillors have formed a group to put tenants in the picture about the proposed transfer of council housing stock.
South Cambs Against Transfer (SCAT) met for the first time last week, and is comprised of councillors and tenants. The group was formed after last months decision by South Cambs District Council to develop a proposal for transferring housing stock to a non-profit housing association.
Cllr Deborah Roberts, district councillor for Fowlmere, is secretary of SCAT. She said: "South Cambs District Council is giving tenants a one-sided view on this issue. There are a lot of downsides to the proposals.
"Rents will go up, and tenants rights change significantly."
The final decision on any transfer will rest with the tenants. Cllr Neil Scarr, who is Vice Chairman of SCAT, said: "These proposals are a one way street, there is no way back.
"We are just asking tenants to listen to what we have to say before they make a decision. If they have any doubt at all about the scheme they must vote no."
Anyone who would like further information, or who is interested in becoming involved in SCAT can contact Cllr Roberts on 01763 208627.
