SUPPORTERS of the Phoenix Group for deaf children donned their running shoes at the Royal Parks half- marathon.
The six competitors raised £2,000 by completing the race, which started and finished in London's Hyde Park, and followed a route through Green Park, St James's Park and along the Thames Embankment.
Jane Shann, director of Phoenix, said: 'I was aware that they were entering the half-marathon but had no idea of the amount they intended to raise for us.
"I am so grateful to them for their efforts and this money will further enhance the work that Phoenix does with children of all ages who have a hearing impairment.'
The team comprised Helena Connelly, Rachel Connelly, Richard Lee, Lorna Connelly, Simon Rimmer and Colin Connelly.
It was Helena's first half marathon and she finished in an admirable time of 2 hours and 4 minutes.
She said: "My mum suggested running the half marathon for Phoenix and we all thought it was a great idea. We were happy to raise funds for such a worthwhile cause and we are excited to see how the money will be spent."
The Phoenix Group is an Ashwell-based charity which provides help and support for the families of deaf children.
