Going to the movies has become a popular pastime in Royston, with the community cinema having sold its 10,000th ticket.
The Royston Picture Palace, which celebrated its first birthday at the beginning of July, reached the milestone at a screening of The 2 Faces of January earlier this month. The 10,000th customer was Melbourn resident Maria Sell.
Geraint Burnell, Royston’s town centre manager, said this underlined the appeal of the cinema to people from the surrounding area.
He added: “This is another remarkable achievement. We owe a debt of gratitude to the dozens of volunteers who not only helped make Royston’s new cinema a reality, but who also continue to run it week-in, week-out, on Friday and on Saturday nights.” Housed in Royston Town Hall, the Picture Palace was jointly funded by the Royston First Business Improvement District and Royston Town Council.
