RECENTLY I went to Saffron Walden and was delighted to find a thriving, charming market town centre despite car park charges (£1.70 for three hours). Lots of small, interesting shops, plenty of people around, and the market had plenty of stalls.
The whole town looked well cared for, and my hat goes off to the people running it.
They have obviously found the winning combination to make a town centre work - and there is a Tesco just outside the town, and a Waitrose in the town.
May I suggest the Royston town manager and town councillors pay a visit to Saffron Walden to pick up some hints on how to make a small market town "buzz" and thrive.
Otherwise, Royston town centre will be consigned to the scrap heap.
Has anyone on the council any vision for the future of poor old Royston?
