WITH recent comments in The Crow about the state of Royston compared with Saffron Walden, I took my grandchildren to the fireworks display on Saffron Walden common.
I just hope that some of Royston's councillors also took the opportunity to see what a similar size town could achieve.
The fireworks were unbelievable, there were food stalls and a small fair along with the fire service and the common was full of people enjoying themselves.
Is this achievement due to the councillors of Saffron Walden working for the town and not for there own egos or blaming Tesco for everything?
The blame for Royston's demise, I believe, is held firmly at the council's door over the past years and, in fact, I understand that when the old sweet factory closed Sainsbury's was interested in opening a store there, but were not encouraged by the local council of the time.
