WE in Standon sympathise with the villagers of Westmill and the problems of excessive speed on the A10 at the junctions with the roads to Westmill ('Danger road' blow, November 22).
However, vehicle activated signs as in Standon (which the Westmill parish clerk mentions) are probably not the answer.
Data collected by Herts Highways shows that the signs in Standon do not result in drivers slowing down.
In fact, since the signs were installed, 85 per cent of vehicles still exceed 40 mph on the road through Standon.
Even after passing the flashing sign eastbound, 85 per cent approach the junction with the High Street at 37 mph or more.
That is why STANDonA120 is calling for average speed cameras to reduce danger and noise through our village.
