VILLAGERS will get the chance to vote on an artist to carry out a public art project.

The Riverside Arts Project will see a lead artist working in Melbourn's nature reserve, Riverside Park at Stockbridge Meadow.

Kirstin Bicknell, the local arts development manager, said: "Melbourn parish council wanted to see a project that would engage the community as well as reflecting Melbourn's unique sense of place and natural heritage."

Seven artists are in contention for the role, and will all appear at a selection evening on Friday 19 March at All Saints Community Centre, Melbourn. Doors open at 6.30pm and the artists will give presentations on their work from 7pm.
