I READ recently that the Papworth Everard by-pass will relieve Papworth of the bulk of the 13,000 vehicles, 10 per cent of them heavy goods vehicles, which pass through the village every day.
I would be interested to learn how this volume of traffic compares with the amount which passes through Royston on the A10 every (normal) day? Clearly traffic on the days when the A14 and/or M11 are closed is much higher than this.
What criteria is used to determine whether a by-pass is needed?
