IN response to Andrew Godman (The Crow, May 17), I would like to ask why North Herts District Council insists on making decisions, and worrying about the consequences afterwards?

I received the same response from the licencing officer before the licence was granted.

Objections to the late licence were lodged, and duly ignored, this is a fact.

The council obviously feels the welfare of Barracuda customers is more important than that of local residents ("when dealing with licensing applications North Herts District Council has to weigh up the interests of the business, its responsible customers, and its neighbours").

This has been proved by its decision. I am sitting here writing this letter at 5.30pm and all I can hear is music, shouts and chants from the Barracuda's garden.

This is just the early evening. I would like to invite Mr Godman to hear further chanting and moronic behaviour at 2.30am.

A member of my family lives in another town centre location, and had to call the police after a gang of late night revellers congregated outside her house shouting. The time? 2.30am. Rather a coincidence.

I am not a lone voice and I hope other town centre residents will put pen to paper. The town centre is becoming less inviting to home buyers and residents who have no choice but to move away, or not buy in the first place.

The granting of this licence has made the council look foolish indeed.
