In 2005 the Government promised to let the people have their say and they should stick to that promise.
I am surprised that John should have a doubt about my views. I wrote to him on August 7 saying : "Conservatives are demanding a referendum on the new EU Treaty and are in favour of a referendum for any significant constitutional change. You don't need to worry I am for a referendum."
It was a strong campaign by Conservatives with media support which led to the 2005 Blair/Brown promise of a referendum.
