I agree with the sentiments expressed in M Jackson's letter (Crow 19/02) regarding the state of the Tesco grounds.

However, I have to say that I am sure Tesco stores do not deliberately litter the area.

Rather it is the action of the general public who shop there, who have little or no concern for our environment, or pride in their surroundings.

Tesco could pay to clear up the mess, but maybe a campaign to educate the people of Royston not to drop litter in the first place would also be a good idea.

Sadly, the problem also extends to our roads.

While some of the mess undoubtedly comes from skips which are not covered, although they should be, much of the rubbish is just thrown out of car windows, or dropped by the uncaring public.

We all need to take more pride in our environment, and be accountable.
