Digging pits and trenches and on this day several of us went on the same stunt. At 4.30pm we packed up and started for battery.
Most of us then returned via Crucifix Corner and the sunken road. Six of us decided to chance the valley.
We wished that we hadn't when within a few hundred yards from right section, a German straff commenced.
For an hour we lay in a shell hole and dare not show our heads above the ground.
