# Walked to Amiens. Stayed at cafe at Madeline on way home.

You can quite imagine that we are having a good time. We hardly realised that there was a war on.

We knew nothing of what was happening in the line, and I might add we did not care.

The only reminder was the distant thunder of the guns and far off flashes could be seen at night.

# Up at 4am. Moved off at 8am. Not a very bright day and we were not feeling too cherful.

Through Bertangles, Coisey, Villiers. Bocage to Vaux sur Somme.

Our last night for a while in civilisation, and believe me we celebrated it. Guns were parked in the village street and we took up quarters on the village green.
