A PUBLIC meeting was held in the Church of England School on Tuesday to arouse interest in the work of the British Legion and to establish a local branch. Nearly 100 ex-servicemen were present.
The chairman, Lt Col E C M Phillips, recalled that an attempt had been made to start a branch four years ago, but two meetings had each produced an attendance of under 10.
After an address by Major Nelson, organising secretary, Home Counties area, a resolution that the Royston & District branch be established was carried unanimously.
