I WAS absolutely dismayed to be caught for two parking offences in Royston on the same day. The first time I wanted to withdraw some money from the bank, pulled off the road for the customer parking, which was full. I pulled alongside the wall and dashed to get money, but when I came back four minutes later a man had leapt out of a parked car and stuck on a ticket on £50. I drove up to the market and parked immediately in the old cattle area, not the fenced off area but the small area for two cars with metal posts either side. I have parked there before, never with a ticket and did not think it was necessary. I went to the fruit stall and back and the same man gave me another ticket. I explained all this in a letter hoping to forego one ticket, but no such luck. I don't go into Royston now. ANGELA DODD Hay Street Steeple Morden I HAVE just had to pay for a parking ticket which I did challenge. I had parked outside Royston Town Hall to pop in and see if there was a waiting time to give blood. I had been gone exactly nine minutes, but when I came out of the town hall because there was no waiting time to give blood, to buy my ticket, the attendant had put a parking ticket on my windscreen. Blood donation is crying out for donors, do you think that this is the way to encourage people to give blood? I do appreciate that you have to pay for parking. But to give me just nine minutes, I think is just awful. LINDA KNIGHT Garden Walk Royston WHENEVER I am in Royston, I am constantly checking the time to see if my parking fee has expired. I might like to stop for a snack or hot drink, but this is no pleasure while I keep my eye on the time, so I don't. Purchases are hurried, no time to browse, so I make no impulse buys. I only go there to use the library, and if I am shopping for pleasure, I go to Newmarket. Need I say more? DIANE GLEDHILL Metcalfe Way Melbourn
