The drum and bugle band of the 1st Rover Scouts are seen here marching over The Cross in Royston to a Silver Jubilee Service at the Congregational Church in Kneesworth Street, in May 1935.

The celebrations - which recognised the Silver Jubilee of George V and Queen Mary - were part of real national rejoicing.

The Rover Scouts and Scouts played a key role, too, in building of a huge bonfire which was part of a national array of such beacons.
