MP Oliver Heald has voiced concerns about proposals to cut the opening hours of Royston police station.

As reported in The Crow last week, the station's opening hours may be reduced to three-days-a-week in the new year.

Mr Heald said it is important that the station is kept open for an "adequate period" each day.

He said: "Royston is many miles from other towns and our police station is an important part of the visible police presence in the town, which contributes to a sense of law and order and security."

The North Herts MP added he has contacted divisional commander Chief Supt Al Thomas to "make strong repre-sentations about the hours of opening".
