THE last Victorian letterbox in Royston was removed from the corner of Melbourn Road and Mill Road in May, 1975.
In a report in The Crow it was described as "suffering from an advanced age", and it was said to have served "rather more than its generation".
A new letterbox was being erected in Melbourn Road near the junction with Stamford Avenue.
There were reports, too, that a postbox in Serby Avenue and one in Newmarket Road had been vandalised.
