A PHOTOGRAPH of a football team featuring one of Britain's most prominent comedians has been unearthed for Crow Nostalgia. As an experienced television presenter and comic Nick Hancock has appeared in programmes including Have I Got News for You, Mr Bean, and, of course, They Think It's All Over. However, this photograph unearthed by Phil Dunnage shows a young Hancock preparing to grace the football field as a member of the Tankards. The team used to play their games on The Moor in Melbourn. It is thought that the picture was taken in the 1978-79 season. The Tankards are believed to have stopped playing now, but Russell Davey, who used to organise fund-raising for the team, remembers when they were still playing. "We used to meet in The Dolphin pub and have meat raffles to raise money," he said. "The best player would get a steak and the worst player would get a sausage." Almost all the team can be recognised, but a few of the names are still missing. For the record, a young Hancock, - who studied at Trinity Hall and Homerton, Cambridge and was president of the Cambridge Footlights in 1984 - is seen far left in the front row.
