If Royston is to be rescued as a place to shop then surely the High Street must be pedestrianised.

I used to find it hazardous taking my pushchair and boys aged four and six along the High Street, but I endured it because my children love to shop there - Ladds being an obvious favourite stop.

It seems that anyone can now drive and park on this street and there are no markings to show where the pavement begins or ends. On Saturday my pushchair was nearly crushed by a reversing car and both of my boys were clipped by wing mirrors or moving cars.

I find it sad that there are fewer and fewer reasons to bother to shop in this historic town and now it has become a real risk to venture there I will reluctantly have to shop elsewhere. Allowing cars free reign on such a narrow high street is just stupid.
