CROW OPINION: Support our troops
THE Crow this week gives its support to Joe McDonald, the chairman of the Royston branch of the Royal British Legion.
He is urging that the men and women of the Royal Anglian Regiment be recognised in Royston for their role in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The regiment - which was once based at Bassingbourn Barracks - has in the past become recognised across the east of England.
It is right and proper that a parade of some kind does take place in Royston.
It will give the community the opportunity to give a show of support to the regiment - and to express sympathy over the number of serving soldiers lost in the two recent conflicts.
Whether a ceremony such as giving the freedom of the town is possible, is not quite clear at the moment.
But at least there could be a day of recognition and a parade, in which we can show our appreciation for the courageous role the regiment is playing in a dangerous part of the world.
